November. Ken already has some kits (about 17 sets) to take with him
and there is room for more. As the new season gets under way some
referees may be buying new kit and if they want 'to lose' their old
stuff then Ken will happily take it with me.
Whistles, watches, pens and pencils together with flags are in great

Well done to Mike Misselbrook who again took part in the London Marathon. As you can see from the pictures, Mike ran the distance in 4hrs 59mins 35secs which was just within the time of 5hrs which he had set himself. For his terrific efforts, Mike raised £804.00 for the Rowans Hospice.
Important message for all Hampshire FA Referees
I would like to remind you all that before contact with the press, it is imperative that you contact either Nicola Rogers(Press Officer HFA) or myself for authorization. This will then enable us to protect you as an individual and make sure that your views are not misquoted. We have developed strong links with the local press in some areas and are continually working hard to further these relationships.
I wish you all continued success and enjoyment for the coming season.
Best Regards

Respect the Ref
Some of the members of Southampton RA who are actively involved and promoting the "Respect The Ref" campaign run by The Daily Echo. As a society we are fully behind any initative to help referees on the local parks and above.
The abuse has to stop Now!
The Daily Echo "respect the ref" campaign is making an impact at grass roots level. In the month since we launched our initiative in a bid to make match officials' lives a lot more tolerable on parks pitches throughout Hampshire, there has been a definite DECREASE in the amount of dissent and assaults. The Echo recently reported how Hampshire FA referees development officer Keith Stroud had noticed an increase in the amount of people asking to go on referees courses. Also today we can reveal that the number of assaults on referees in the Southampton area - i.e. the Echo's circulation area - has dropped off since our campaign of educating the local football community started. Up to mid October, there had been six assaults on referees in the Southampton area since the beginning of August - a timespan of about 11 weeks. Since last month there has only been one assault incident brought to the Hampshire FA's attention.
